Charles Daigle of Elm Turkey Farm in Dracut grew up knowing the difference between fresh and frozen. He believes the flavor and quality of fresh cannot be beat. In 1981, when his favorite turkey farm went out of business, he decided to start raising his own.
An engineer by trade, Charles raises and sells his turkeys solely for Thanksgiving. He has a busy few weeks ahead as he works with 25 people to prepare 1,000 turkeys for pick-up.
Elm Turkey Farm sells 15- to 30-pound birds ($2.50 a pound) that are fed high-quality grains. The turkeys are hormone-free, antibiotic-free, and preservative-free. Orders are accepted until the week of Thanksgiving.
Open November and December, Thanksgiving week. Orders taken in October for fresh dressed turkey and turkey pies.
